How to Be a Good Manager

At automotiveMastermind, we spend time and effort thinking about and working on employee engagement. The way we interact as a team is directly related to our ability to be effective in the marketplace, but don’t take our word for it.

In the article “Why 70 Percent of Employees Aren’t Working to Their Full Potential…” Gallup identified five key talents shared by exceptional managers. Not only do we recruit those talents since they align with our Mission, Vision, and Values, but we train and support a culture that promotes the ongoing development of good management skills. So, what are they?

According to Inc. magazine, exceptional managers possess five key qualities:

1. They motivate every single employee to take action and engage employees with a compelling mission and vision.

2. They have the assertiveness to drive outcomes and the ability to overcome adversity and resistance.

3. They create a culture of clear accountability.

4. They build relationships that create trust, open dialogue, and full transparency.

5. They make decisions based on productivity, not politics.

The data suggests that when these behaviors are embedded in the culture of an organization, those companies achieve, on average, “147 percent higher earnings per share than their competition.”

If your team could use some inspiration, start with these simple management tips:

•   Expect feedback and provide it

•   Jump in, lean in, and learn new ideas

•   Be mindful that everyone around you has something to teach

•   Develop yourself while learning alongside others

These tips, used in conjunction with automotive Mastermind’s proprietary automotive data mining technology, can help your dealership become more successful and efficient. To learn more about our dealership-support services, contact us today.
